A crunchy twist on classic deviled eggs featuring a golden panko crust cooked in the air fryer and finished with a smoky honey drizzle for a sweet and savory flavor.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 large eggs, hard-boiled and peeled (room temperature for easier peeling)
  • 1/4 cup mayonnaise
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 teaspoon apple cider vinegar
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste
  • 3/4 cup panko breadcrumbs (Japanese-style recommended)
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • About 2 tablespoons smoked honey, for drizzling
  • Paprika, for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Place 6 large eggs in a single layer in a saucepan. Cover with water by 1 inch. Bring to a boil over medium-high heat, then cover and remove from heat. Let stand for 12 minutes.
  2. Transfer eggs to an ice bath for 5 minutes to cool and stop cooking.
  3. Gently tap the eggs on a hard surface and peel under cold running water to remove shells without damaging the whites.
  4. Slice each egg in half lengthwise. Remove yolks and place them in a bowl.
  5. Mash the yolks with 1/4 cup mayonnaise, 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard, 1 teaspoon apple cider vinegar, salt, and pepper until smooth and creamy. Taste and adjust seasoning.
  6. Using a spoon or piping bag, fill each egg white half with the yolk mixture. Don’t overfill; a slight mound works best.
  7. In a shallow dish, mix 3/4 cup panko breadcrumbs with 2 tablespoons melted butter until crumbs are evenly coated.
  8. Gently press the top of the yolk filling into the panko mixture, coating evenly. Lightly press the crumbs to help them stick.
  9. Preheat your air fryer to 350°F (175°C). Place the coated eggs in a single layer in the basket or tray.
  10. Cook for 5-7 minutes until the panko is golden and crispy. Watch closely to prevent burning.
  11. Once out of the fryer and slightly cooled, drizzle about 2 tablespoons of smoked honey over the eggs.
  12. Add a sprinkle of paprika for color if desired.
  13. Serve immediately for best texture, warm or at room temperature.

Notes

For dairy-free, substitute mayonnaise with avocado mayo and butter with olive oil. Use gluten-free panko for gluten-free diet. If no smoked honey, use regular honey with smoked paprika. Work in batches if air fryer basket is small to avoid soggy crusts. Apply panko crust and air fry just before serving for best crunch. Leftovers reheat well in air fryer to restore crispiness.
