Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 ounces sliced roasted turkey breast
  • 6 ounces prosciutto, thinly sliced
  • 6 ounces salami, sliced
  • 4 ounces soppressata, sliced
  • 8 ounces brie cheese
  • 6 ounces aged cheddar, sliced into thin wedges
  • 4 ounces goat cheese log
  • 4 ounces manchego, sliced into triangles
  • 1/2 cup fig jam
  • 1/2 cup cranberry sauce
  • 1 cup red grapes, washed and separated into small clusters
  • 1 cup dried apricots
  • 1/2 cup dried cranberries
  • 1 apple, thinly sliced (toss in lemon juice to prevent browning)
  • 1 cup mixed nuts (pecans, walnuts, almonds—roasted and salted)
  • 1/2 cup honey-roasted pecans
  • 1 cup assorted crackers (water crackers, rosemary crackers, and buttery rounds)
  • 1/2 cup breadsticks or grissini
  • 1/2 cup cornichons
  • 1/2 cup marinated olives (rosemary and garlic)
  • 1 cup cherry tomatoes (optional)
  • Fresh rosemary sprigs
  • Fresh thyme sprigs
  • Edible flowers (optional)
  • Honey, for drizzling

Instructions

  1. Prep your board (5 minutes): Line your board with parchment paper if you want easy cleanup. Place your small bowls or ramekins in different spots across the board—think of them as anchors for the rest of the layout. I usually put one at the top left, one at the bottom right, and one in the middle.
  2. Fill the bowls (5 minutes): Spoon fig jam into one bowl, cranberry sauce into another, and marinated olives into the third. Set them aside. This prevents spills when you’re arranging everything else.
  3. Arrange the cheeses (5 minutes): Place the brie wheel whole on the board—don’t cut it yet. Slice the aged cheddar into thin wedges and fan them out in a line. Crumble the goat cheese into a small pile (or leave the log whole and slice it into rounds). Cut the manchego into thin triangles and arrange them in a staggered row. Space these out so there’s cheese in every quadrant of the board.
  4. Add the meats (5 minutes): Fold the prosciutto slices into loose ribbons and place them in a pile near the brie. Roll the salami slices into small cylinders and arrange them in a line next to the cheddar. Fold the soppressata into halves and place them near the manchego. Lay the turkey slices in a single layer, slightly overlapping, near the center of the board.
  5. Fill in with fruits (5 minutes): Scatter grape clusters in the gaps between cheeses and meats. Place dried apricots in small piles near the goat cheese. Sprinkle dried cranberries around the brie. Arrange apple slices in a fan shape near the turkey—this adds a pop of white and green that looks gorgeous.
  6. Add crunch (5 minutes): Fill empty spaces with crackers—place them in small clusters rather than one big pile. Arrange breadsticks vertically along one edge of the board. Sprinkle mixed nuts and honey-roasted pecans in the remaining gaps. This creates visual interest and makes it easy for guests to grab a handful.
  7. Garnish and finish (5 minutes): Tuck fresh rosemary and thyme sprigs around the board, especially near the cheeses. Add cherry tomatoes in small clusters for color. Drizzle honey over the brie and goat cheese—this is the moment that makes people gasp. Place the small spreaders next to the jams and cheese knives near each cheese wedge.
  8. Final check (2 minutes): Step back and look at your board. Fill any obvious empty spots with extra nuts, dried fruit, or cracker clusters. The goal is abundance—you want it to look overflowing and generous. Trust me, guests will notice and appreciate it.

Notes

Take all cheeses out of the refrigerator 30 to 45 minutes before serving for best flavor and texture. Don’t overcrowd the board—leave about 20 percent empty for breathing room. Layer taller items toward the back and shorter items toward the front for visual depth. Spread crackers in small clusters near each cheese type. Assemble the board 20 minutes before guests arrive and cover loosely with plastic wrap until serving. For vegetarian version, swap meats for roasted mushrooms, grilled artichoke hearts, and marinated tofu. For gluten-free, use gluten-free rice crackers or vegetable chips. For dairy-free, use vegan brie and aged nut cheeses.
