These spooky yet delicious pretzel rods are dipped in white chocolate and topped with a sliced almond ‘fingernail’ for a creepy Halloween treat that’s quick, easy, and perfect for parties.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 12 standard-sized pretzel rods (e.g., Snyder’s of Hanover)
  • 1 cup (175 g) white chocolate chips (e.g., Ghirardelli or Guittard)
  • 1 teaspoon (5 ml) coconut oil (refined or unrefined)
  • 24 whole sliced almonds (flat slices)
  • Coarse sea salt (e.g., Maldon), for sprinkling

Instructions

  1. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone mat. Have pretzel rods, sliced almonds, and salt ready.
  2. Place white chocolate chips and coconut oil in a microwave-safe bowl. Microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring well after each, until smooth and fully melted (about 1 minute 30 seconds total).
  3. Hold a pretzel rod by one end and dip the other two-thirds into the melted white chocolate. Let excess drip off, then place on the prepared baking sheet.
  4. While the chocolate is still wet, gently press a sliced almond onto the tip of the pretzel rod, pointed end outward, to resemble a fingernail. Repeat for all 12 pretzels.
  5. Use a small spoon or knife to add small dabs of melted chocolate along the pretzel to create ‘knuckles’. Alternatively, use a piping bag for more control.
  6. While the chocolate is still tacky, sprinkle a tiny pinch of coarse sea salt over the dipped portion of each pretzel.
  7. Let the pretzels set at room temperature for about 30 minutes, or refrigerate for 15 minutes, until the chocolate is firm and no longer shiny.
  8. Carefully transfer to a serving platter or store in an airtight container. Serve at room temperature.

Notes

White chocolate burns easily; microwave in short bursts. Work quickly when attaching almonds as chocolate sets fast. For extra creepiness, use a toothpick to draw wrinkles. These taste even better the next day.
