A quick and easy recipe to make frozen French toast sticks crispy on the outside and soft inside in just 10 minutes, perfect for busy mornings or a fuss-free breakfast.

Ingredients

Scale
  • Frozen French toast sticks (brands like Eggo or store-brand classic/original)
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil, canola oil, or melted butter (optional, for pan-frying or air frying)
  • Maple syrup or honey (for serving)
  • Powdered sugar (optional, for sprinkling)
  • Fresh fruit such as sliced strawberries, blueberries, or banana (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your cooking method: For skillet, warm over medium heat for about 3 minutes; for air fryer, preheat to 400°F (200°C); for oven, preheat to 425°F (220°C) and set up a wire rack on a baking sheet.
  2. Prepare the cooking surface: Add about 1 tablespoon of oil or melted butter to your skillet and swirl to coat. For air fryer or oven, no oil is necessary but can be sprayed lightly for extra crispiness.
  3. Arrange the frozen French toast sticks in a single layer without crowding to avoid soggy spots and uneven cooking.
  4. Cook and flip as follows: Skillet – cook 3-4 minutes on each side until golden brown and crisp, flipping gently with tongs; Air fryer – cook 8-10 minutes, flipping halfway through; Oven – bake 12-15 minutes, flipping once after 7 minutes.
  5. Watch for cues: sticks should be crispy and deep golden on the outside, soft inside. Lower heat or reduce cooking time if browning too fast.
  6. If pan-frying, drain excess oil by transferring cooked sticks to a paper towel-lined plate.
  7. Serve immediately: sprinkle with powdered sugar if desired and add maple syrup or your choice of topping. Serve with fresh fruit for balance.

Notes

Do not thaw sticks before cooking; cook straight from frozen for best crispiness. Preheat cooking surface to avoid sticking and uneven cooking. Use medium heat to prevent burning or sogginess. Avoid microwaving as it makes sticks soggy. Keep cooked sticks warm in a low oven if cooking in batches.
