A fun and delicious breakfast featuring crispy star-shaped French toast topped with a sweet, sticky strawberry glaze. Perfect for special occasions or a joyful weekend treat.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 slices thick-cut white or brioche bread
  • 3 large eggs, room temperature
  • 1 cup (240 ml) whole milk or milk alternative (almond, oat)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • Pinch of salt
  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1 cup fresh strawberries, hulled and chopped (frozen can be used)
  • 2 tablespoons honey or maple syrup
  • 1 teaspoon freshly squeezed lemon juice

Instructions

  1. Using a star-shaped cookie cutter, cut six slices of bread into stars. Set aside leftover bread pieces for another use.
  2. In a mixing bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and salt until smooth and combined.
  3. Dip each star-shaped bread piece into the egg mixture, soaking about 20 seconds per side without getting soggy.
  4. Heat a nonstick skillet or griddle over medium heat and melt 1 tablespoon of butter. The pan should be hot but not smoking.
  5. Place soaked bread stars onto the skillet and cook 2-3 minutes per side until golden brown and crispy. Add more butter as needed for remaining slices.
  6. While cooking the toast, combine chopped strawberries, honey or maple syrup, and lemon juice in a small saucepan. Simmer over low heat for 5-7 minutes until strawberries soften and glaze thickens slightly. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
  7. Arrange the crispy star-shaped French toast on plates and spoon the warm strawberry glaze generously over the top. Optionally, dust with powdered sugar or garnish with fresh mint leaves.

Notes

Use thick-sliced bread like brioche or Texas toast for best results. Do not over-soak the bread to avoid sogginess. Cook on medium heat to get crispy edges without burning. The strawberry glaze can be simmered longer to thicken or loosened with lemon juice or water. For dairy-free, substitute butter with coconut oil and milk with plant-based milk. For gluten-free, use gluten-free bread.
