A quick and flavorful chicken dish with a sweet and savory honey garlic soy sauce, perfect for busy weeknights and served over fluffy rice.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound (450g) boneless, skinless chicken thighs
  • 1/4 cup (60 ml) soy sauce
  • 3 tablespoons (60 ml) honey
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 tablespoon (15 ml) rice vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon (5 ml) sesame oil
  • 2 tablespoons (30 ml) vegetable or canola oil
  • 2 green onions, sliced
  • About 3 cups (600g cooked) white or jasmine rice

Instructions

  1. Pat the chicken thighs dry with paper towels and cut into 1½-inch bite-sized pieces. Set aside. (5 minutes)
  2. In a small bowl, combine soy sauce, honey, minced garlic, rice vinegar, and sesame oil. Stir until honey is dissolved. (2 minutes)
  3. Heat a large non-stick skillet over medium-high heat and add vegetable oil. Warm until shimmering but not smoking. (1-2 minutes)
  4. Add chicken pieces in a single layer. Cook without moving for about 3 minutes to develop a golden crust. Flip and cook the other side for another 3 minutes until cooked through. (6 minutes)
  5. Pour the sauce mixture over the chicken and reduce heat to medium. Stir to coat all pieces evenly. Let the sauce simmer and thicken for 3-4 minutes until glossy. (4 minutes)
  6. Remove from heat and sprinkle sliced green onions over the top. Stir gently. (1 minute)
  7. Serve the chicken and sauce generously over warm cooked rice.

Notes

Dry chicken pieces before searing for better crust. Control heat to avoid burning honey or garlic. Stir sauce frequently while simmering. If sauce thickens too much, add a tablespoon of water to loosen. Cook chicken in batches if pan is overcrowded.
