Ingredients

  • Water crackers (plain or sea salt)
  • Baguette slices (toasted)
  • Pretzel crisps
  • Sharp cheddar cubes (1-inch)
  • Brie rounds or thick slices
  • Goat cheese logs (sliced into coins)
  • Mozzarella balls (bocconcini)
  • Prosciutto (folded into rosettes)
  • Salami or Pepperoni (folded or rolled)
  • Ham slices (honey-glazed or smoked)
  • Green grapes (washed and dried)
  • Dried apricots (halved)
  • Marinated artichoke hearts (cut into quarters)
  • Walnuts or almonds (whole or halves)
  • Olives (Kalamata or green)
  • Basil leaves (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Wash and thoroughly dry all fruits and vegetables, patting grapes and olives dry with a paper towel to prevent soggy crackers.
  2. Cut cheeses into uniform cubes or slices and fold meats into neat squares or rosettes.
  3. Soak wooden bamboo skewers in water for at least 15 minutes to prevent splintering (optional if using metal skewers).
  4. Slide a piece of cracker or bread onto the skewer first to act as an anchor.
  5. Add a cube of cheese onto the skewer.
  6. Fold a square of prosciutto or salami and slide it onto the skewer, adding volume.
  7. Add accents such as grapes, olives, or nuts to fill gaps and add color.
  8. Top with a basil leaf or small piece of dried fruit for garnish.
  9. Arrange skewers on a serving platter, standing them upright or laying them flat.
  10. Serve at room temperature for best flavor.

Notes

Ensure all fruits and marinated vegetables are thoroughly dried before skewering to prevent crackers from becoming soggy. Skewers can be assembled up to 2 hours in advance and stored covered in the refrigerator. Serve at room temperature for optimal flavor. For a vegetarian version, swap meats for marinated tofu or roasted red peppers.
