Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 boxes (3.9 oz each) instant chocolate pudding mix
  • 3 cups cold whole milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup heavy whipping cream
  • 1 family-size package Oreo cookies (about 36 cookies)
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter (optional)
  • Gummy worms (for decoration)
  • Halloween-themed candy eyeballs (for decoration)
  • Chocolate gravestones (for decoration)
  • Pretzel sticks (for decoration)
  • Green-tinted shredded coconut (optional, for decoration)

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, whisk together both boxes of instant chocolate pudding mix with 3 cups of cold whole milk. Whisk vigorously for about 2 minutes until the mixture starts to thicken. Add 1 teaspoon vanilla extract and stir. Let sit for 5 minutes to set up.
  2. Place the entire package of Oreos (cream filling included) into a large zip-top bag. Seal tightly and crush with a rolling pin into fine crumbs with some chunkier pieces. Transfer to a bowl and stir in melted butter if using. Set aside.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened cream cheese with an electric mixer until smooth and fluffy (about 2 minutes). Add powdered sugar and 1 teaspoon vanilla extract, beat until combined. In a separate bowl, whip heavy cream until stiff peaks form. Gently fold whipped cream into cream cheese mixture until no white streaks remain.
  4. Assemble the cups: Start with about 2 tablespoons of crushed Oreo ‘dirt’ at the bottom of each clear cup. Add about 3 tablespoons of chocolate pudding. Add about 3 tablespoons of cream cheese mousse. Top with another 2 tablespoons of crushed Oreos, pressing down gently.
  5. Decorate: Press gummy worms into the ‘dirt,’ add chocolate gravestones, candy eyeballs, broken pretzel sticks, and optional green coconut ‘moss.’
  6. Refrigerate assembled cups for at least 1 hour before serving (2 hours is even better).

Notes

Make sure cream cheese is at room temperature to avoid lumps. For best texture, use instant pudding mix (not cook-and-serve). The Oreo ‘dirt’ will soften after 24 hours, so add topping just before serving if making ahead. For gluten-free, use gluten-free sandwich cookies and check pudding mix label. For dairy-free, use dairy-free cream cheese, coconut cream, and plant-based milk.
