A quick and delicious honey garlic glazed salmon recipe ready in just 20 minutes, perfect for busy weeknights or last-minute dinners.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 salmon fillets (about 6 ounces or 170 grams each), skin on or off
  • 1/4 cup honey (85 grams)
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce (30 ml), low sodium preferred
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar (15 ml)
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil (30 ml)
  • Black pepper, to taste
  • Salt, to taste
  • Optional garnish: chopped green onions or sesame seeds

Instructions

  1. Pat the salmon fillets dry with paper towels to remove excess moisture. Season both sides lightly with salt and freshly cracked black pepper. (5 minutes)
  2. In a small bowl, whisk together the honey, minced garlic, soy sauce, and rice vinegar until well combined. Set aside. (3 minutes)
  3. Place your skillet over medium-high heat and add the olive oil. Wait until the oil shimmers—hot enough to sizzle but not smoking. (2 minutes)
  4. Place the fillets skin-side down if your salmon has skin. Cook undisturbed for 4-5 minutes until edges turn opaque and skin crisps up. (4-5 minutes)
  5. Use a spatula to gently turn the salmon over. Pour the honey garlic glaze evenly over the fillets. (1 minute)
  6. Lower the heat to medium. Spoon the glaze over the salmon as it cooks for another 4-5 minutes until the glaze thickens and becomes sticky. The fish is done when it flakes easily with a fork but is still moist inside. (4-5 minutes)
  7. Remove from heat and let the salmon rest for a minute. Garnish with chopped green onions or a sprinkle of sesame seeds if desired. (1-2 minutes)

Notes

If the glaze thickens too quickly or burns, reduce the heat. For thicker salmon fillets (over 1 inch), add an extra minute or two on each side. Use fresh garlic for best flavor; garlic powder can be substituted in a pinch. Avoid overcrowding the pan to ensure a good sear. Optionally swap honey with maple syrup or soy sauce with tamari for gluten-free. Oven-baking option: bake at 400°F for 12-15 minutes, then broil 2-3 minutes with glaze.
