These adorable mummy hot dog bites are the perfect Halloween appetizer. Made with crescent roll dough and cocktail wieners, they are quick, easy, and a guaranteed crowd-pleaser.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 package (8 oz) refrigerated crescent roll dough
  • 1 package (12 oz) cocktail wieners or mini hot dogs
  • 1 large egg, beaten
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon or yellow mustard
  • Optional: Everything bagel seasoning or sesame seeds
  • Optional: Cooking spray or parchment paper

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line your baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Unroll the crescent roll dough onto a clean cutting board. If using perforated dough, press the seams together firmly. Cut the dough lengthwise into thin strips, about 1/2 inch wide, using a pizza cutter or sharp knife.
  3. Take one cocktail wiener and place it at the end of a dough strip. Wrap the strip around the wiener, overlapping slightly, leaving a small gap near the top for the eyes. Tuck the end of the strip underneath the mummy to secure it. Repeat with remaining wieners and dough strips.
  4. Arrange the wrapped mummies on the prepared baking sheet, leaving about an inch of space between each one.
  5. In a small bowl, beat the egg with a teaspoon of water until smooth. Using a pastry brush, lightly brush the top and sides of each mummy with the egg wash.
  6. Bake for 10 to 12 minutes, or until the dough is puffed up and golden brown.
  7. Remove from the oven and let cool on the pan for about 2 minutes. Using a toothpick or the tip of a knife, dab a tiny amount of mustard onto the exposed hot dog area to create the eyes.
  8. Serve immediately.

Notes

Don’t overwork the dough; keep it cold for easier handling. Use a pizza cutter for even strips. Add mustard eyes after baking to prevent them from baking into a crusty spot. Work in batches if making a large quantity.
