A quick and easy no-cook snack featuring ham, cheddar cheese, and a creamy mustard-spiked cream cheese spread rolled in soft flour tortillas and sliced into bite-sized pinwheels.

Ingredients

  • Large flour tortillas (8-inch size, soft and pliable)
  • Thinly sliced ham (6-8 slices, deli-style)
  • Cheddar cheese, sliced or shredded (4 oz / 115 g)
  • Cream cheese, softened (4 oz / 115 g)
  • Dijon mustard (1 tablespoon)
  • Fresh spinach leaves or baby arugula (small handful, optional)
  • Green onions, finely chopped (1-2, optional)
  • Black pepper, freshly ground, to taste
  • Optional extras: smoked paprika, Swiss or provolone cheese as substitutes

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, soften 4 oz (115 g) of cream cheese until smooth. Stir in 1 tablespoon of Dijon mustard and a few grinds of black pepper. Mix well until fully combined.
  2. Place one 8-inch flour tortilla flat on a cutting board. If tortillas are stiff, warm gently in the microwave for 10 seconds to make rolling easier.
  3. Spread an even layer of the cream cheese mixture over the entire surface of the tortilla, right up to the edges.
  4. Layer 3-4 slices of thinly sliced ham evenly over the cream cheese. Follow with a layer of cheddar cheese slices or a sprinkle of shredded cheddar. If using, scatter a few fresh spinach leaves and chopped green onions on top.
  5. Beginning at one edge, carefully roll the tortilla into a tight log, tucking in the fillings as you go.
  6. Wrap the rolled tortilla tightly in plastic wrap or parchment paper. Refrigerate for at least 20 minutes to help the pinwheels set and make slicing easier.
  7. Remove the wrap and slice the roll into 1/2-inch (1.3 cm) thick pinwheels using a sharp knife or pizza cutter. Arrange on a serving platter.

Notes

Soften cream cheese well before spreading to avoid tearing tortillas. Chill rolled tortillas before slicing for neat pinwheels. Use a sharp knife or pizza cutter for clean slices. Optional ingredients like spinach, green onions, or smoked paprika add flavor and freshness. Can be made ahead and refrigerated up to 24 hours before slicing.
