A light, vibrant shrimp cocktail platter featuring a homemade zesty cocktail sauce, perfect for parties and under 200 calories per serving.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound large cooked shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • Ice cubes and water for chilling shrimp
  • 1 lemon, sliced (for garnish and light zest)
  • ½ cup ketchup (choose a low-sugar brand if preferred)
  • 2 tablespoons horseradish (adjust based on heat preference)
  • 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • ½ teaspoon hot sauce (optional)
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
  • Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)
  • Celery sticks or cucumber slices (optional, for serving)

Instructions

  1. If your shrimp are frozen, thaw them overnight in the fridge or place them in a colander under cold running water for about 5 minutes. Pat them dry with paper towels.
  2. Fill a large bowl with ice and cold water to create an ice bath. Submerge the shrimp for 5 minutes to chill them thoroughly, then drain and set aside on a serving platter lined with lemon slices.
  3. In a small bowl, whisk together ½ cup ketchup, 2 tablespoons horseradish, 1 tablespoon lemon juice, 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce, and ½ teaspoon hot sauce if using. Season with salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste.
  4. Place chilled shrimp around the edges of the platter or bowl. Spoon the cocktail sauce into a small bowl placed in the center. Garnish with chopped parsley and place celery sticks or cucumber slices on the side if desired.
  5. Give the whole platter a light squeeze of fresh lemon juice right before serving.

Notes

Use pre-cooked shrimp to save time and ensure tenderness. Pat shrimp dry after thawing to help sauce stick better. Adjust horseradish and hot sauce to taste for desired heat level. Keep shrimp cold until serving for best texture and flavor. Store shrimp and sauce separately if making ahead.
