A quick and easy appetizer featuring creamy goat cheese, fresh figs, candied walnuts, and a drizzle of floral honey on toasted baguette slices. Perfect for entertaining or a simple snack.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 fresh ripe figs, quartered
  • 4 ounces soft creamy goat cheese
  • 3 tablespoons honey, plus extra for drizzling
  • 1 cup walnuts, roughly chopped
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1 loaf baguette or rustic bread, sliced into ½-inch thick pieces
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened
  • Optional: fresh thyme leaves or a pinch of flaky sea salt for garnish

Instructions

  1. Candy the walnuts: Heat a skillet over medium heat. Add the chopped walnuts and sugar, stirring constantly until the sugar melts and coats the nuts, about 5-7 minutes. Transfer to parchment paper to cool.
  2. Prepare the bread: Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Brush each baguette slice lightly with softened butter on both sides. Arrange on a baking sheet and toast for about 8 minutes, flipping halfway, until golden and crisp but still tender inside.
  3. Prepare the figs: Rinse and quarter the fresh figs while the bread is toasting.
  4. Assemble the crostini: Spread a generous layer of goat cheese on each toasted bread slice. Top with fresh fig quarters and a handful of candied walnuts.
  5. Finish with honey and garnish: Drizzle each crostini with honey. Optionally, sprinkle fresh thyme leaves or flaky sea salt on top.

Notes

Leave goat cheese out at room temperature for 15 minutes before spreading for softer texture. Watch walnuts carefully while candying to avoid burning. Toast bread to golden but tender texture to avoid sogginess. Assemble crostini just before serving for best crunch.
