Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups (480 ml) 100% pure cranberry juice (unsweetened or lightly sweetened)
  • 1/2 cup (120 ml) orange juice (freshly squeezed if possible)
  • 23 tablespoons (3045 ml) simple syrup (optional, for sweetness)
  • Sparkling water or club soda (e.g., San Pellegrino or Topo Chico)
  • Fresh rosemary sprigs
  • Fresh cranberries (frozen works too)
  • Orange slices or twists
  • Pomegranate seeds (optional)
  • Mint leaves
  • Vanilla extract or vanilla bean paste (optional, for simple syrup)
  • Ginger beer or ginger ale (optional, for a spicy kick)
  • Frozen berries (optional, e.g., blueberries, raspberries, blackberries)
  • Edible flowers (optional, e.g., pansies or violets)

Instructions

  1. Make the cranberry base (5 minutes): In a large pitcher, combine 2 cups (480 ml) of 100% cranberry juice with 1/2 cup (120 ml) of orange juice. If you want it sweeter, add 2-3 tablespoons (30-45 ml) of simple syrup. Stir well and refrigerate until ready to use. This mixture can be made up to 24 hours in advance.
  2. Prep the garnishes (5 minutes): Wash and dry your rosemary sprigs and mint leaves. Slice one orange into thin wheels, then cut each wheel in half. If using pomegranate seeds, pop them out of the fruit and place them in a small bowl. Measure out 1/2 cup (about 60 grams) of fresh or frozen cranberries. Arrange everything in separate bowls or on a platter.
  3. Chill your sparkling water (do this ahead): Place your bottles of sparkling water or club soda in the refrigerator at least 2 hours before serving. For extra cold bubbles, put them in an ice bucket filled with ice and water 30 minutes before guests arrive.
  4. Set up the bar (5 minutes): Arrange your pitchers, glasses, garnishes, and ice bucket on a table or counter. Place the cranberry base in the center, with the sparkling water next to it. If you’re offering orange juice as a separate option, put it in its own pitcher on the side. Add labels so guests know what’s what.
  5. Demonstrate the pour (optional): When your first guest arrives, show them how to build their drink. A good starting ratio is 1 part cranberry base to 2 parts sparkling water, with a splash of orange juice if desired. But honestly, let them experiment—that’s half the fun.
  6. Garnish and serve: Encourage guests to add a rosemary sprig, a few cranberries, an orange slice, or a sprinkle of pomegranate seeds. The garnishes aren’t just pretty—they infuse flavor as the drink sits. For an extra touch, gently press a mint leaf between your fingers before dropping it in to release the aroma.
  7. Keep it flowing: As the party goes on, you’ll need to refill the pitchers. I like to keep extra cranberry base in the fridge so I can top it off without interrupting the fun. If the sparkling water goes flat, open a fresh bottle—flat bubbles are a buzzkill.

Notes

Don’t premix the cranberry base with the sparkling water; keep them separate until serving to preserve carbonation. For a non-alcoholic option, use quality Italian mineral water for finer, longer-lasting bubbles. Garnishes can be prepped within an hour of serving for freshness. If using frozen cranberries as ice cubes, warn guests they are tart.
