A fun, easy, and visually stunning layered jello dessert perfect for patriotic celebrations like the Fourth of July. Features red, white, and blue layers with a creamy middle and festive star-shaped sprinkles.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 ounces (85g) strawberry or cherry flavored red gelatin (Jell-O recommended)
  • 3 ounces (85g) blueberry or berry blue gelatin (Berry Blue by Jell-O recommended)
  • 1 tablespoon (about 9g) unflavored gelatin
  • 1 cup (240ml) heavy whipping cream or store-bought whipped topping (like Cool Whip), chilled
  • 1/2 cup (120ml) sweetened condensed milk
  • 2 1/2 cups (600ml) cold water, divided
  • 1/4 cup star-shaped sprinkles (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Red Jello Layer: Dissolve 3 ounces of red jello powder in 1 cup boiling water. Stir until dissolved, about 2 minutes. Add 1/2 cup cold water, stir, then pour about 1/3 cup into each serving cup. Refrigerate 20-30 minutes until firm but tacky.
  2. Make the Creamy Layer: Sprinkle 1 tablespoon unflavored gelatin over 1/4 cup cold water and let bloom 5 minutes. Warm gelatin until dissolved. Whip 1 cup heavy cream until soft peaks form.
  3. Combine Sweetened Condensed Milk and Gelatin: Fold dissolved gelatin into 1/2 cup sweetened condensed milk, then gently fold into whipped cream without deflating.
  4. Layer the Creamy Mixture: Spoon or pipe about 2 tablespoons of creamy mixture over red jello layer in each cup. Refrigerate 20 minutes to set.
  5. Prepare the Blue Jello Layer: Dissolve 3 ounces blue jello powder in 1 cup boiling water. Add 1/2 cup cold water. Let cool to room temperature but do not set.
  6. Add the Blue Jello Layer: Pour about 1/3 cup cooled blue jello over creamy layer in each cup. Chill at least 2 hours until fully set.
  7. Garnish and Serve: Sprinkle star-shaped sprinkles on top just before serving. Serve chilled.

Notes

Use cold water from the fridge to help jello set faster. When pouring layers, use the back of a spoon to slow the pour and avoid mixing colors. Make sure each layer is firm before adding the next to prevent bleeding. Whip cream to soft peaks for best texture. For vegan or dairy-free versions, substitute agar-agar for gelatin and coconut cream for heavy cream. Store leftovers covered in refrigerator up to 3 days; freeze up to 1 month.
