Quick Bananas Foster Recipe with Creamy Vanilla Ice Cream

A quick and easy Bananas Foster dessert featuring caramelized bananas in a buttery brown sugar sauce, flambéed with rum and served with creamy vanilla ice cream. Perfect for a fuss-free, indulgent treat ready in under 15 minutes.

  • 3 ripe but firm bananas, sliced diagonally
  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • ½ cup packed light brown sugar
  • ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ¼ cup dark rum
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • At least 4 scoops vanilla ice cream
  • Optional: pinch of salt

Instructions

  1. Slice the bananas diagonally into ½-inch thick pieces. Measure out the butter, brown sugar, cinnamon, rum, and vanilla extract. Have the ice cream scoops ready to go.
  2. Heat a non-stick skillet over medium heat. Add the butter and let it melt completely, watching carefully so it doesn’t brown or burn.
  3. Stir in the brown sugar and cinnamon into the melted butter. Continue stirring until the sugar dissolves and the mixture becomes smooth and bubbly to form the caramel sauce.
  4. Gently add the sliced bananas to the skillet. Stir carefully to coat them in the caramel sauce. Cook for about 2-3 minutes until they soften slightly but still hold their shape.
  5. Remove the skillet from the heat. Carefully pour in the rum and vanilla extract. If desired and safe, ignite the rum with a long lighter to flambé, letting the flames subside naturally. Otherwise, stir it in well.
  6. Spoon the warm Bananas Foster over bowls or plates. Top generously with creamy vanilla ice cream scoops. Serve immediately.

Notes

Control heat carefully to avoid burning butter or sugar. Remove pan from heat before adding rum to safely flambé. Use ripe but firm bananas to maintain texture. Serve immediately as ice cream melts quickly. For dairy-free, substitute butter with coconut oil and use dairy-free vanilla ice cream. For alcohol-free version, replace rum with orange juice or apple cider.
