Ingredients

Scale
  • 9 cups Rice Chex cereal (or Corn Chex, or a mix of both)
  • 3 cups mini pretzel twists
  • 2 cups cheese crackers (like Goldfish or Cheez-Its)
  • 1 cup mixed nuts (roasted and salted; cashews, almonds, and pecans)
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter (melted)
  • 1/4 cup olive oil
  • 1 packet ranch seasoning mix (recommended: Hidden Valley)
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper (freshly ground)
  • 1/4 cup fresh dill (finely chopped)
  • 1/4 cup fresh parsley (finely chopped, flat-leaf Italian preferred)
  • 1 tablespoon fresh chives (finely chopped, optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 250°F (120°C). Line two large rimmed baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. In your largest mixing bowl, combine the Rice Chex cereal, mini pretzels, cheese crackers, and mixed nuts. Stir gently to distribute evenly.
  3. In a small saucepan over low heat, melt the unsalted butter. Remove from heat and whisk in the olive oil, ranch seasoning mix, garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, cayenne pepper (if using), and black pepper until smooth.
  4. Slowly drizzle the butter mixture over the dry mix while stirring constantly. Use a spatula to gently fold until every piece is lightly coated.
  5. Sprinkle the chopped dill, parsley, and chives over the coated mix. Fold gently to distribute the herbs.
  6. Divide the mixture evenly between the two prepared baking sheets. Spread in a single, even layer, breaking up any large clumps.
  7. Bake for 45 minutes, stirring every 15 minutes. Use a spatula to flip and redistribute the mix each time.
  8. Remove from the oven and let the Chex mix cool completely on the baking sheets (about 30 minutes).
  9. Once cooled, gently break up any large clumps with your hands. Taste and adjust seasoning if needed.

Notes

For best results, use fresh herbs—dried herbs won’t deliver the same bright flavor. If using dried herbs, use half the amount. Store in an airtight container at room temperature with a paper towel at the bottom to absorb moisture. Do not refrigerate. The flavors develop and deepen over the first 24 hours.
