These easy mummy hot dogs are a fun and delicious Halloween appetizer made with crescent roll dough, hot dogs, and mustard eyes. Ready in under 30 minutes, they’re perfect for parties and guaranteed to be a crowd-pleaser.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 package (8-count) refrigerated crescent roll dough
  • 8 hot dogs
  • Mustard for the eyes (yellow mustard recommended)
  • 1 large egg, beaten (optional, for egg wash)
  • Salt and pepper to taste (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat.
  2. Unroll the crescent roll dough. If using perforated dough, press the seams together to create a solid sheet.
  3. Cut the dough lengthwise into thin strips, about 1/2 inch wide (8 to 10 strips per sheet).
  4. Pat the hot dogs dry with a paper towel. Optionally, cut a small slit in each hot dog for a ‘mouth’.
  5. Wrap a strip of dough around each hot dog, slightly overlapping, leaving a small space near the top for the eyes. Repeat for all hot dogs.
  6. Place the wrapped mummies on the prepared baking sheet, spacing them about 2 inches apart. Brush with beaten egg if desired.
  7. Bake for 12 to 15 minutes, until the dough is golden brown and the hot dogs are heated through.
  8. Let the mummies cool on the baking sheet for 2 to 3 minutes.
  9. Add two small dots of mustard to the exposed area near the top of each mummy for eyes.
  10. Serve immediately.

Notes

For best results, use room temperature hot dogs and avoid overworking the dough. You can assemble the mummies up to 4 hours ahead and refrigerate before baking. For a shiny finish, brush with egg wash. Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days and reheated in a 350°F oven for 5 minutes.
